A GREAT REALITY FOR GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS
BALDASSINI - TOGNOZZI - PONTELLO Costruzioni generali S.p.A. (better known as BTP) offers a new scenario to the Italian building sector, where the best practices and the expertise of the most important Tuscan building companies are gathered into a General Contractor able to tender for major contracts on a national scale.
BTP stems from the willingness of two entrepreneurs, Riccardo Fusi and Roberto Bartolomei, to join their capacities and strengths in order to cope with a national scope market. The progressive interaction between their respective companies began in 1988: Fusi Bruno S.p.A. (established by Riccardo’s father in 1955) and Bartolomei & Manetti S.p.A. (established by Roberto’s father in 1948).
BALDASSINI ADOLFO & F. S A S
THE COMPANY’S ORIGINS date back to 1926, when Baldassini Adolfo e F. S.a.s. was first set-up. In 1928, the company started working on a number of building projects, including the new seat of the Faculty of Business and Economy of the University of Florence. The company grew steadily between 1935 and 1945, carrying out works for the mining company Mineraria Valdarno, among which tunnels, industrial plants, hospitals, warehouses, roads and even an entire village. After World War II, the company strengthened its relationship with local councils, both for urban reconstruction programmes in the areas most damaged by the War and for the urbanization and development of country areas. In the 1960's, thanks also to the economic boom and to the profound social transformation occurring in Italy, Baldassini turned to major public jobs and urban infrastructure projects - becoming a member of the National Register of Building Contractors. In the 1970's, it extended its field of business to include both Europe and Saudi Arabia and Libya, where the company was involved in the construction of buildings, offices, schools and above all roads.
GIOVANNI TOGNOZZI SPA
The engineering firm Giovanni Tognozzi S.p.A. was established in 1945, immediately after World War II, undertaking major projects in different Italian regions.
Since its foundation, the company was mainly involved in public, municipal and social works. Between 1958 and 1988, it successfully tendered for important national building contracts and was awarded jobs for prestigious buildings, industrial plants, hospitals, schools, banks and hotels.
TOGNOZZI COSTRUZIONI GENERALI S PA
In 1993, Baldassini acquired Tognozzi Spa’ company division active in the building sector. This transaction led to the establishment of Baldassini-Tognozzi Costruzioni Generali S.p.A.
Since 1995, under the current control and management, the company has rapidly expanded, thanks to substantial investments in human resources, state-of-the-art equipment and acquisitions of specialized firms. Said investments enabled the company to execute large-scale estate projects and to tender successfully for important public contracts all over Italy with special focus on hospitals (25 jobs executed over the last ten years: an almost unrivalled experience) and infrastructures (airports, roads, motorways, railway stations and lines, underground and urban works).
GRUPPO PONTELLO
GRUPPO PONTELLO was established in the Austrian regions bordering on Italy over a century ago, during the last years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
After World War I, the company moved to Florence and quickly established itself as one of Tuscany’s leading building companies. After World War II, Costruzioni Callisto Pontello S.p.a. which, in the meantime, had become the major building company in Tuscany, ranked among the twenty principal building companies in Italy.
The company played a leading role in post-war building works in Florence. It also expanded its organization and staff structure so as to be involved, right from the start, in the building of the Italian motorway network, developing customized building techniques for tunnels and wide-span viaducts. It then used the same know-how in its first major projects carried out abroad.
In the mid-1980's, Costruzioni Callisto Pontello S.p.A. played a prominent role in the modernization of the Italian rail network, and in the late 1990's it was involved in major projects in Eastern Europe and for German Railways.
In 2000, the company was restructured, this being a pre-requisite for tendering for public contracts. This led to Pontello S.p.a (to which Costruzioni Callisto Pontello S.p.A. business activity was transferred) being taken-over by Baldassini Tognozzi S.p.a in 2004. The ultimate result is the creation of a grand Tuscan reality, where the hundred-year experience of the historical Florentine company can add further contribution for the group overall growth.
